Dr. Elisha Fredman

Radiation Oncologist / Patient-Centered Radiotherapy

Dr. Elisha Fredman is a US board-certified Radiation Oncologist with 10 years of academic and clinical experience in the treatment of prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers.

About:

Currently the co-Director of Genitourinary Radiation Therapy and Director of Research at the Davidoff Cancer Center, Dr. Fredman previously served as the Medical Director of Radiation Oncology in Cleveland, Ohio at the University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center. He lectures internationally on the topic of Prostate Radiation, has been awarded more than half a million USD in research grants and support, serves on the editorial board of 5 medical journals focused on radiation oncology, and has authored over 50 clinical publications.

Dr. Fredman helped pioneer Boston Scientific’s SpaceOAR™ procedure and is Boston Scientific’s sole educational clinical liaison for the procedure across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. This groundbreaking and quick procedure separates the rectum from the prostate before a patient undergoes radiation therapy, using an FDA-approved hydrogel injection, that is shown in clinical studies to protect the patient’s urinary, bowel, and sexual function and improve patient outcomes.

In this elegant outpatient procedure (under partial or local anesthesia), the patient’s rectum is gently moved away from the radiation field. Dr. Fredman simultaneously inserts gold markers into the prostate to increase the accuracy and precision of the subsequent radiotherapy.

More than 500,000 patients have been treated with SpaceOAR™ in over 500 medical institutions globally, growing 400% since 2020. According to Boston Scientific, more than half of US prostate cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy receive the SpaceOAR™ procedure beforehand.

On behalf of Boston Scientific, Dr. Fredman trains physicians and nurses to safely administer the SpaceOAR™ procedure.
